Josephine Taylor

This print is an extension of Taylor's 2023 body of work utilizing hand-cut stencils and a multi-stage indigo dyeing process. Depicted are four hellebore flowers—Winter or Christmas Roses—symbols of healing and poison, purity and darkness. The traditional Japanese water based woodblock process (mokuhanga) was selected for this original work to mirror the ethereal qualities of Taylor's paintings. Through experimental printing techniques, this work harness the expressive qualities of this water based medium to create a delicate balance of soft diffusion and crisp detail on handmade kozo paper.
