Mokuhanga Monoprint

Combining the non-toxic medium of mokuhanga with expressive monoprinting inking techniques, this workshop provides an accessible entry point to Japanese water based woodblock printing in this no-carve approach. Students will paint their design as a water-proof resist directly on the wood and learn how to use water based pigments and selective inking techniques to create multi-color prints from a single block. This workshop will cover the basic techniques and materials of mokuhanga printing including how to work with water based pigments, printing by hand with a Japanese baren, and inking techniques using traditional Japanese Surikome bake brushes. Students will leave with hand pulled prints of their own design. This workshop is open to all levels and is particularly well suited for those who have difficulty carving but wish to explore a non toxic approach to relief printmaking.

1. Classes are not refunded due to failure to attend class, planned absences, minor illness, or vacations.
2. When class/workshop enrollment is below the minimum required three days before the start of class the class may be cancelled. If Moonlight Press cancels a class you will be notified two days before the first day of class and students will have the option to receive a full refund or transfer credit to another class.
3. If you drop a class at least 10 days before it starts, you will receive a 100% refund minus a $35 admin fee.
4. If you drop a class between 6 days to 1 day before the first session of class, there are no refunds. You will receive a class credit IF we are able to replace your seat with another student before the start of class. Moonlight Press will actively search for a replacement but if this is not possible, crediting will not be offered.
